It handles more than 180 destinations, including international daily flights. CLT airport serves as the American Airlines' second-largest hub after Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The airport is open 24 hours a day and has one Main Terminal and five Concourses: A (15 gates), B (9 gates), C (12 gates), D (6 gates for international flights), E (29 gates). All five concourses at Charlotte Douglas International Airport are connected to the central terminal building, which houses ticketing, security, and baggage claim. Sprinter is the express bus that serves the route Charlotte Airport – downtown via Wilkinson Boulevard. It runs to the city centre in just 30 minutes from 05:30 am to 12:55 pm, every 30 minutes. Holidays may vary.
