Key Points to Consider

Based on recent comments on Google, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and Yelp, many passengers agree that the car rental process at Charlotte Douglas International Airport is generally efficient. However, certain factors can negatively impact the experience if not planned in advance.

  • 🟢 Rental center located directly across from the terminal: Allows immediate access without the need for external transportation, frequently cited as a major advantage compared to other large airports.
  • 🕐 High demand during peak hours: Friday afternoons, Monday mornings, and holidays often bring long lines and waits of up to 45 minutes, even with a reservation.
  • 👥 Variable customer service: While Alamo and Enterprise receive consistent praise for friendly and efficient staff, other companies such as Avis and Sixt have reports of understaffing or less cordial interactions.
  • 📍 Helpful but improvable signage: Although directions to the Hourly Deck are clear, first-time visitors mention that more signage in Spanish or with visual symbols would be helpful.

Additional feedback

Some passengers note that the Rental Car Center, while convenient due to its proximity, can become congested during peak demand, leading some to suggest that its layout or location could be reconsidered to improve operational flow.

There have also been occasional issues with actual vehicle availability (especially with Budget and Sixt), and with National’s Emerald Aisle, where the cars offered do not always meet frequent travelers’ expectations.

Overall, users recommend completing digital check-in in advance when available, and verifying the vehicle’s condition via the app or at the counter before leaving. This helps avoid delays and disputes at return.
